Are Music Magazines doomed?

In recent years, the numbers of weekly and monthly magazines that are being sold have decreased - this is because everything is available digitally.

So, why pay for information when you can get it for free? Magazines can't respond as quickly as the internet, therefore more people are looking up information online because it's free, quick and easy to access.

We live in a multi-tasking world, and music magazines just don't fit in anymore. They are becoming old-fashioned, as shown by the decreasing size of their allocated space in shops and supermarkets.

People nowadays like to use convergent devices, their iPads and phones etc. We like to be able to access information 24/7 at any place, anywhere.

The reality is that magazines are becoming to expensive to produce and need high sales and high advertising revenue.

Although there is a lot of benefit from getting things digitally, print is still needed in the modern world today. It is coming back into fashion - just like the clothing styles of earlier decades are coming back into fashion.

Diane Kenwood from IPC states: "There is still a lot of money to be made from the sale of magazines : £ 2 billion worth are purchased every year, 2.6 million of them are sold in the UK every day. They're read by 87% of the British population."

Steve Auckland from Metro Publishing says: "Ninety per cent plus of our money is coming from print," he told InPublishing.

We cannot allow magazines to become 'extinct.'

The Internet is helping to revive them. Now, it is very easy to publish and make your own magazine using the required tools from design websites, and using social media you can find contributors and an audience. You don't always need a big office and lots of money from investors to publish your own magazine, you can make your own sitting at home just as long you choose your subject wisely and are able to speak to your audience.
